Ausgrid's 2023 Bright Spark Apprentice Program open to the next generation of talent

The doors are open on the 2023 program, with 55 places available, aimed at supporting Australia’s growing energy industry talent while building a skilled future workforce.

Ausgrid’s 2023 Bright Spark Apprentice Program is now open to applicants. There are 40 apprentice positions and 15 graduate program positions available to school leavers, people looking to change careers or anyone already completing an electrical apprenticeship.

Successful applicants will get paid to learn, with the program building strong foundational knowledge across multiple trades while supporting apprentices to develop a career as a lineworker, cable jointer or electrician. Covering both traditional areas as well as emerging technologies and renewables.

The apprentices will help Ausgrid deliver better outcomes for customers through their different experiences, perspectives, and ideas, with the level of talent and diversity growing each year.

Ausgrid wants to continue building a diverse, skilled workforce of the future to help the nation transition to net zero. We want to hear from people of all walks of life, wherever you are in your career journey. We are particularly interested in hearing from women

Kathrina Bryen, Ausgrid’s Executive General Manager People.

Kathrina continued, “Each year the Bright Spark Apprentice Program recruits outstanding young talent from a diversity of backgrounds. At Ausgrid, we know diversity in the workplace strengthens our ability to deliver for our customers, and we cannot wait to uncover another cohort of people who we can grow into a career in Australia’s changing energy industry.”

The 2021 Apprentice of the Year, Tahlia Keen, said of the program, “The Bright Spark program is a great opportunity for anyone, particularly women, interested in a career in the electrical industry. At Ausgrid I have been fully supported throughout my apprenticeship in a safe and structured work environment. I have been able to learn from the industry’s best and gain invaluable skills related to the distribution and transmission network. The apprenticeship has a great balance of technical and hands on learning that will set you up for career success and opportunities.”

Ausgrid is passionate about growing and investing in its future workforce. The Bright Spark Apprentice Program not only develops talent but also supports the vision of helping communities have the power in a resilient, affordable, net zero future.

To deliver the best possible service to our customers we strive towards a workforce that reflects the diverse communities that we serve.
