Electricity Network Safety Management System Report 2024

Ausgrid has published its annual Electricity Network Safety Management System performance report which outlines the activities that Ausgrid is doing to improve safety across the network including the management of bushfire risk.

This report outlines annual performance and bushfire preparedness under Ausgrid’s Electricity Network Safety Management System (ENSMS). It summarises key incidents, including major incidents, asset failures, and vegetation contacts, with associated data. The report also covers reliability, inspections, risk treatments, and audits. Additionally, it details bushfire risk management and pre-summer preparedness, including inspections and actions in bushfire-prone areas.

Safety is our priority, and we are committed to keeping our electricity network secure for everyone in the community and pleasingly this year’s report notes:

  • For more than four years, all pre-summer bushfire inspection tasks have been completed without exception, and this milestone was achieved again this year.
  • To enhance resource planning and manage overall network safety risk, Ausgrid now conducts aerial hardware inspections using drones on a three-year cycle, with inspections carried out continuously throughout the year.
  • Ausgrid continues to enhance network safety through innovative technologies, such as Line Fault Indicators, which provide real-time data to improve network performance and identify areas needing upgrades or facing challenges, and the Smart Meter Analytics platform, which detects potential hazards like deteriorating neutral connections near customers’ homes. These advancements enable proactive repairs, improving the safety of the network.

We continue to remind the community they need to always stay at least 8 metres away from any fallen powerlines, always assume they are live and report any potential hazards to Ausgrid on 13 13 88.
