Sustainability

Social

Through our services, policies and organisational culture, Ausgrid genuinely works to providing safe, reliable and affordable energy to our customers. We recognise that our infrastructure is present in all the communities we operate and that we have a large impact when things go well or when our service is interrupted.

There are four key focus areas for social sustainability at Ausgrid. These are:

  • Customers and communities
  • Health and safety
  • Our people
  • Affordability

Customers and Communities

We strive to make a positive contribution to the communities in which we operate, by investing in community programs that make a difference in the lives of our customers. This includes our ongoing commitment to electricity safety week and our FY2019 initiative - buy-a-bale program – to support drought stricken farmers.

Health and Safety

Ausgrid’s commitment to the health and safety of our employees, customers and communities is our top priority and linked to the KPI’s of our key managers and executives.

The nature of our work and services is inherently dangerous and this requires robust and innovative safety management systems to ensure a safe working culture and that we provide a safe and reliable service to our customers. See our link below and our Sustainability Report for more information on safety.

Our Vision

Our Vision is for communities to have the power in a resilient, affordable, net-zero future. Our Purpose is to connect communities and empower lives with a focus on affordability, reliability and sustainability.

Our Values

  • Work safe, live safe
  • Customer-focused
  • Commercially minded
  • Collaborative
  • Honest and accountable
  • Respect

Affordability

Ausgrid recognises that it has an important part to paly in energy affordability.  We have been working hard to transform our business and listen to our customers to operation, maintain and build a network that delivers energy in line with changing customer expectations.

Every five years Ausgrid provides a regulatory submission to the Australian Energy Regulator who assesses our operational, maintenance and construction works plan and costs.  For the period between 2019 and 2024 Ausgrid has lowered revenues by 18% to the previous five year period and lowered its annual operating expenditure by $100 million. Our Sustainability Report, Energy Charter and Regulatory Submission, detail how we are engaging with our customers and working to make energy more affordable.
