Belrose cable replacement project

Ausgrid is proposing to replace aging underground cables with overhead poles and wires along Ralston Avenue Belrose, between Elm Avenue and the Western Lookout.

The existing cables are nearing the end of their serviceable life and require replacement to ensure Ausgrid maintains a safe and reliable electricity network.

The installation of new poles and overhead wires will reduce the cost to customers.

We will remove the existing brick enclosure at the Western Lookout, which will improve the vantage point towards Garigal National Park.

In addition to consultation with the landowner, Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council, the Ausgrid Project Team hosted community information sessions in Belrose for the local community to learn more about the proposed works and to provide feedback. Newsletters have been distributed to the local community and we keep our project status up to date on this page.

We are proposing to install new poles and wires along Ralston Avenue from the main gates near Elm Avenue towards the Western Lookout. The proposed route follows the same route as the assets being replaced.

The preferred route for the new wires is marked on the map as ‘project area’.

Ausgrid is the approving authority for the work under the NSW Environmental Planning & Assessment Act.

As part of the approval process, we will be preparing an environmental assessment known as a Summary Environmental Report (SER) to determine the potential environmental impacts of the project.

The timeline shown provides an overview of the project and community engagement stages.

A summary environmental report will be prepared and published on this webpage.

Construction is proposed to start in mid to late 2024 and due for completion early 2025.
