How to get started

There are many business benefits associated with correcting your power factor. Follow our steps for installing a power factor correction solution below.

Steps for installing a power factor correction solution

  1. To get a quote for any power factor correction work, contact your electrical service provider.
  2. If you or your electrical service provider requires meter data to calculate your power factor, you can request your meter data from us for the previous two years. The interval meter data does not provide power factor information directly but this can be calculated from the meter data (real KWH and reactive KVARH).
  3. Your service provider then needs to notify Ausgrid about the change to your electrical installation (see ES1 - Premises Connection Requirements Section 5) and refer to our Installation Safety Plan.
  4. Once your power factor equipment is installed, send Ausgrid a Network Tariff and Threshold Change Application form. Make sure you have your retailer endorse the form before sending it back to us.
  5. For more information about how your capacity reset charge is calculated, please refer to Ausgrid's Network Price Guide (ES7), section 3.7.2.
  6. Provide a copy of either: the full tax invoice/s to provide evidence that the power factor installation equipment was installed at your site and the date of the installation OR the Certificate of Compliance Electrical Work (CCEW).
  7. Send the Network Tariff and Threshold Change application form and the forms in Step 6. to Ausgrid National Electricity Market Support at nemsrpops@ausgrid.com.au.
