Ausgrid continuing its support of drought-stricken farmers

Ausgrid has delivered more feed to Hunter region farmers struggling with the impacts of the extended drought conditions.

Two truckloads of hay were delivered to a property in Merriwa today and will be shared among ten farming families in the area.

Ausgrid CEO Richard Gross said it’s the third donation of its kind to Hunter Valley region farmers.

“Ausgrid has already supplied hay to farmers in Muswellbrook and Singleton and we’re proud to be able to make this small gesture to help them,” Mr Gross said.

Ausgrid sent semi-trailers to Victoria to pick up and transport the hay back to the Hunter.

“We are really pleased to have partnered with Rural Aid to make sure the feed gets to the farmers who need it, via their Buy A Bale program.”

The gesture follows Ausgrid’s decision to support an employee campaign, matching their donations dollar-for-dollar, as part of Rural Aid’s Buy a Bale program.

“I’m proud that our people are contributing to the Buy a Bale program and Ausgrid will be matching those employee donations dollar-for-dollar”, Mr Gross said.

Ausgrid has further deliveries planned to farmers in the Hunter over the summer period.

Rural Aid’s Gary Bentley said donations of hay, food and household items are still greatly needed in Hunter communities.

“Rural Aid is also providing counselling to our farmers and their families throughout this drought and we appreciate Ausgrid’s support at this time,” he said.
