1376_Who we are

We are the largest distributor of electricity on Australia’s east coast, providing power to two million customers - that’s over four million Australians relying on us every day. Our network is made up of substations, powerlines, underground cables and power poles, spanning 22,275 square kilometres throughout Sydney, the Central Coast and the Hunter Valley.

Our Ownership

Ausgrid are currently 49.6% owned by the NSW Government, 8.4% owned by AustralianSuper, 25.2% owned by IFM Investors and 16.8% owned by APG Asset Management Group.

Ausgrid’s strong shareholder base is unique – majority owned by the NSW Government. Institutional investors have long term investment horizons and have a proven track record of providing support to their investments.

Where we operate

We operate in the National Electricity Market (NEM) as both a Distribution Network Service Provider (DNSP) and a Transmission Network Service Provider (TNSP). Our network covers Sydney, the Central Coast and the Hunter Valley.

Day-to-day we are actively operating, maintaining, repairing and building our electricity network with a focus on safety and reliability. Our job is to make sure the network is ready for a future where renewables play a major role in the power mix and where households and businesses can generate their own energy and sell it back to the grid.
