The cost of our future network depends on the investment decisions we make today. We regularly review our capital expenditure plans to identify where demand management solutions offer a cost effective alternative to network investment. This includes network investment for managing peak demand and replacing aged network equipment, almost a quarter of which are over 50 years old.
We aim to identify and implement the right balance of network and non-network solutions to lower costs for our customers. Solutions might include temporary demand reduction such as demand response or permanent demand reduction such as energy efficiency and solar generation.
Our mission is to develop and implement demand management solutions that offer credible alternatives to investment in network assets and lead to lower costs for our customers.
We assess a broad range of demand management solutions when considering alternatives to network investment to manage peak demand or the retirement of aged network assets.
Some of our demand management initiatives include:
We continually explore new and innovative ways to use non-network solutions for deferral of investment. Our trials form part of our Demand Management Innovation Program. Visit Demand Management Innovation Allowance (DMIA) program to find out more.
