Ausgrid specific courses

 

There are mandatory course pre-requisites that must be completed prior to enrolling to attend a course at Ausgrid.

Following the correct registration process and checking that you meet the course prerequisite requirements ensures that you will be able to attend the course on the day.

Preparing for training

To ensure you are able to access training at Ausgrid please:  

  • Check your eligibility: Ensure that you have completed all required pre-requisite training.
  • Arrive 30 mins before: Arrive at a training site no later than 30 minutes prior to course start time to go through security. If late, you may be turned away and advised to re-book.
  • What to wear: Please wear a full-length ARC rated PPE clothing with safety boots as a minimum. Check your course requirements. Some courses require additional specific PPE.
  • Present your ID: Bring a photo ID on the day of training. Australian issued Drivers Licence or Passport or Proof of Age card.
  • Make sure you have registered: Register with Ausgrid’s Training Partner Aurecon – a unit of competency certificate will not be issued without this registration.
  • EWPs and Cranes: Where an EWP or a Crane is required and a company can not supply, please advise and Ausgrid may be able to assist.

Cancellation policy

Cancellations made 5 business days or more in advance are fully refundable. We are unable to refund cancellations made less than 5 business days before the course start date. Contractors with a current contract requirement and are exempted from paying the training fee for courses, will incur cancellation fees to the full cost of training when cancellations are made less than 5 business days. Attendees can be swapped for another employee up until 2 business days before the training event.

Courses requiring Electrical Safety Rules (ESRs)

The courses listed below have only one pre-requisite: an Ausgrid delivered Electrical Safety Rules – Apply ESI safety rules, codes of practice and procedures for work on or near electrical apparatus.

Access Permit Recipient Restricted (APR)

Course Duration: 8hrs
Course Cost: Free

  • Disconnection and Reconnection of Installations
  • Electrical Safety Rules Refresher (Contractors)
  • GIS Map Reading
  • Pole Safety Inspection
  • Substation Entry
  • Triple End Seal
  • Working Near or Around Underground Cables
  • There are no pre-requisites to attend Electrical Safety Rules (Initial).

Training Frequency and Refreshers

  • All ASP/2s must complete their initial Ausgrid Electrical Safety Rules (ESR) training with Ausgrid’s Training Group. After the initial training the annual refresher training required is UETTDRRF01B
  • Apply ESI safety rules, codes of practice and procedures for work on or near electrical apparatus”, which can be completed with Ausgrid’s Training Group or a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) approved to deliver the Ausgrid aligned training.
  • External Partners must undertake annual ESR refresher training only through Ausgrid.
  • Packaged training course includes ESR, Environmental procedures and UETTDRRF09B.

Access Permit Recipient (APR) Restricted Refresher

Course Duration: 3hrs
Course Cost: Free

This course requires the following pre-requisites to have been completed:

  • Ausgrid’s Electrical Safety Rules – Apply ESI safety rules, codes of practice and procedures for work on or near electrical apparatus – (Ausgrid delivered)
  • APR Initial or Current APR Refresher (completed within 2 years)

Application of LV OH Shorts

Course Duration: 8hrs
Course Cost: $360

To gain/maintain authorisation to apply and remove LV shorting equipment Ausgrid External Partners and ASP/1 (1A) must provide evidence of successful completion of the course pre-requisites.

  1. Electrical Trade Qualification

  2. Ausgrid delivered courses:

  1. Perform CPR 
  2. Provide First Aid in an ESI environment 
  3. Perform Pole Top Rescue 
  4. Perform EWP rescue 
  5. Perform EWP controlled descent escape 
  6. SafeWork NSW High Risk Licence – Licence to operate a boom-type elevating work platform (boom length 11m or more)

Application & Removal of Overhead HV Access Permits & Working Earths

Course Duration: 8hrs
Course Cost: $396

Only Class 1A ASPs and Ausgrid Authorised Contractors can apply and remove Overhead HV Access Permit and Working Earths.

  2. Ausgrid delivered courses:

  1. Perform CPR
  2. Provide First Aid in an ESI environment
  3. Perform Pole Top Rescue
  4. Perform EWP rescue
  5. Perform EWP controlled descent escape
  6. SafeWork NSW High Risk Licence – License to operate a boom-type elevating work platform (boom length 11m or more)

Reminder: This course requires an EWP. Please ensure that the company brings one on the day.

Pit Entry

Course Duration: 8hrs
Course Cost: $396

  1. Australian Electrical Supply Industry (ESI) skills passport or similar

  2. Ausgrid delivered courses:

  • Risk Assessment training
  • Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
  • Perform CPR
  • Provide First Aid in an ESI environment
  • Perform rescue from a Live Low Voltage panel
  • Confined Space Entry Training Course

RTLW Standing Poles (Contractors)

Course Duration: TBA
Course Cost: TBA

A minimum of 4 course participants are required in order for this course to be run. Within those 4 people there needs to be at least one Crane Operator and one Dogman, in addition two to stand pole.
