Electrical installation defects

In the interest of public safety, connections to Ausgrid’s electricity network must comply with all relevant safety standards.

What is a defect?

Defects are electrical installation and service installation works that do not comply with AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules, the Service and Installation Rules of NSW or Ausgrid’s requirements and Network Standards that apply at the time of installation. We issue defects during safety checks

What should I do if I receive a defect notice?

If you have received a defect notice, you must engage the original licenced Electrical Contractor or Accredited Service Provider (ASP) who carried out the electrical work.

If you are unable to reach the original Electrical Contractor or ASP, you will need to engage a licenced ASP Level 2 (ASP2) to perform the defect rectification work. A list of ASP2s can be found here.
