Power Outage Update

18/01/25 - 7.20 AM

Ausgrid emergency crews have worked through the night after a second wave of storms hit Sydney and Newcastle yesterday and overnight.

With winds of up to 100kmh in some areas - and a severe weather warning - there have been additional widespread outages. This has also hampered the critical repairs needed after Wednesday’s storms.

Of the 140,000 customers who lost their power during Wednesday night’s storms, more than 130,000 customers had been restored - although some may have since lost power again. Please check the power outage map for more information.

Yesterday's severe weather resulted in 68,000 customers losing power across the network. Around 28,000 are still without power this morning in Sydney, and 15,000 out in Newcastle and Hunter regions.

Community Drop-in Sessions

To assist customers hardest hit following Wednesday night’s storm in the Port Stephens region, members of Ausgrid's customer and community teams will be operating two drop-in locations today to offer advice, phone charging facilities, technical support, material for life support customers, and guidance to help with claims.

These will be at:

  • Raymond Terrace Community Church - 10 Richardson Rd, Raymond Terrace - between 9am – 5pm; and
  • Tilligerry Men's Shed - 1195 Lemon Tree Passage Rd, Mallabula between 8am and 12noon.

Community Safety

Please always stay at least 8 metres away from fallen powerlines, and if you are in the Ausgrid network area, report electrical hazards by calling 13 13 88 or visiting ausgrid.com.au/hazards.

For further information on staying safe visit 'How We Restore Power' and 'Storm Safety' pages.

Stay safe around fallen powerlines and electrical hazards

Remember, there are no second chances with electricity. Always assume a fallen wire is live, stay at least 8 metres away and call Ausgrid on 13 13 88 or report hazards online at ausgrid.com.au/hazards. In a life threatening emergency always call 000 first.
