Homecoming by Hayley Pigram
Hayley is a Dharug woman, born and raised in Southwest Sydney, and channels her close connection to her Aboriginal culture into her art. She frequently employs a traditional style of painting, pairing it with the use of modern, vibrant colours and unconventional mediums. This sets her identity as an artist bridging traditional spirituality with contemporary living. Through her art, she narrates the tale of a modern woman with an ancient heritage.
Homecoming is inspired by “What does it mean to come home? What do we long for when we are far from home? The comforts of Country can be both simple and complex. The landforms and landscapes, the people, the sky’s and the wildlife. And a deeper spiritual longing, a homesickness that is not tangible and can only be healed with a return to home. When I am far from my Country I miss the rivers, my people, the noises and nightlights. There is no place like home.”
