Macquarie Substation Installation of Third Transformer Bay

There are multiple connection applications for new data centre developments in the Macquarie Park area. The upgrade will greatly improve our capability to meet the existing and future electricity needs of homes and businesses in the area and will help to reduce the occurrence of electrical supply outages.

Since June 2018, Ausgrid has been in consultation with Ryde Council to discuss the proposal and receive early feedback. Earlier this year, Ausgrid conducted site investigations to access the ground conditions and locate existing services in the area. This has helped in considering a number of route options to connect power to the proposed substation, and identify routes for cables exiting the substation.

As a part of the early remediation works, Ausgrid has also undertaken some construction work that involves the removal of fill in front of the existing substation.

All adjacent neighbours have been notified about the upcoming work within the existing site. Two site meetings were held with two neighbours to clarify the impacts on a shared driveway owned by Ausgrid. No further enquiries were received.

Ausgrid have notified the City of Ryde Council regarding the proposed upgrade of this substation, who have no objections to the proposed works.

Monday to Friday, between 7.00am and 6.00pm

Saturdays 8.00am and 1.00pm

Minimising the impact our works have on the environment is of paramount importance to Ausgrid. These proposed works will be assessed under Part 5 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and every effort will be made to minimise disruption to the community.

Ausgrid has completed a Summary Environmental Report (SER) and is the determining authority for these works. Multiple assessments have been undertaken during the development this project and mitigation measures have been implemented as appropriate to minimise impacts on surrounding residents as much as possible.

This construction will involve the following

• Site investigations within and around the substation.
• Excavation works inside the substation to form new cable routes and feeder bay within the property.
• Construction of a new suspended concrete transformer bay within the substation property, on the southern side (adjacent to the Australia Post driveway).
• The following equipment is anticipated to be used for the excavation and construction works: piling rig, excavators, jack hammers, trucks, front end loaders, mobile crane.
• Like any construction site, noise and dust may be generated and we will work to minimise these impacts and finish the work as quickly as possible.

The planned work will not disrupt your power supply.
